Entree at the Orient Hotel Bangkok

This hotel oozes class which will set you back US$600 per night. (I know what you're thinking, no I certainly am not in that league). It has a rich history behind it and has been preserved and restored with touches of contemporary elegance. I was told that it was where a certain William Somerset Maugham hung out in his hey days.

Guests entering the hotel lobby are greeted by a string quartet. On the night I was there, the guests heard Pachebel's Canon in D.

The restaurant where this entree was served was a boat ride across the River Kwei (name subject to confirmation). This beautiful dish set the tone for the rest of a memorable dinner.
